Jia comes from Singapore, where she grew up playing piano and trumpet. A scholarship brought her to the University of Michigan as a trumpet player but her curiosity for early music drew her to Europe, completing her studies in Berlin and Basel. She has won prizes both as a harpsichord soloist and in chamber groups and lives currently in Berlin as a multi-faceted musician performing on both instruments in various genres.
